Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Masking/Frame Rate Problem In Sony Vegas 8.0

Kay. That seems to work okay. But do I have to render it in .avi format? Those types of videos don’t usually upload to YouTube very well. Could I render it in .wmv?

AVI is an extension – not a ‘format’. AVI may be all sorts of files.

For you tube, i would use WMV, but if you want to use AVI, use Main Concept codec, using the same preferences (if possible) as your project.

    Does this help?

    Sony Vegas 9 Pro 🙂

I think you are missing the point. You need to take your source files and re-render them using an intraframe code like Lagarith and then replace the mpeg4 files in your project with the new lagarith files. Then edit with those files and adjust all of your masking. What you make your final render to is up to you. WMV is fine as is MP4. It’s the source files that you need to change.

Okay. Sorry, I didn’t understand what you meant.
I did what you told me to do and now I’ve rendered the section that I masked with the episode that was rendered with the Lagarith codec. There seems to be some improvement. But I watched the episode that I had rendered in the Lagarith codec, and everytime a frame changed, there were tiny lines in the animation. I don’t if that’s a normal thing or not, but it’s causing my masking to look a little rough once again.

If the lines are interlacing and your source is progressive them make sure you render to progressive with Lagarith to avoid the interlacing.

    Okay. I’ll try that.
Also, on the episodes that I rendered with the Lagarith codec, the frame rate is 25.000 (PAL), but I have my project setting on the frame rate of 23.976. Will that effect my masking?

Yes, absolutely. You need to get your source and project at the same frame rate if you want the masking to be accurate. Otherwise, once again, you will be editing on frames that don’t exist. (i.e., Vegas will be guessing where things are in the frame at 23.976 vs 25.000)

So, I should render all of the episodes that I plan to mask with the Lagarith codec?
But, as far as the clips that I don’t cut out, I don’t really think the frame rate matters, right?

And I can’t change the video format to Lagarith codec when I render in WMV format…

    Yes.

    > But, as far as the clips that I don’t cut out, I don’t really think the frame rate matters, right?

    That’s correct.
