The new Apple TV (computer-independant broadband-connected) is going to lead somewhere new I would suspect.
Podcasts – SD or HD – and YouTube movies – now H.264 – direct to a TV near you with the computer switched off gives a whole new opportunity for video content to be delivered direct to a viewer.
For $229….As to the Air, lots of airlines still enforce a 5Kg hand-baggage rule. Everytime I travel by air I long for a lighter laptop…

See, that’s a very good example of a specific need for the Air. If you travel a LOT and you don’t have the need of an optical drive all the time, the Air would be a consideration. Though I would probably look to the iPhone first on that thought.
Have never had an airline stop me from carrying on my laptop, but yes, if I traveled three days per week, then the Air would be something to consider. I would miss that optical drive for DVD’s though.

For $229…. “This isn’t much of a new opportunity. Apple is very late in the game on this one. A lot of different companies are already providing this.

Maybe I’ll have to break down and watch the keynote as I must be missing something,
but…. didn’t Apple announce this – i-TV at last years’ keynote? The “new” thing is that 8 major studios have agreed to release movies for download from the i-tunes store.“everything is broken” ……1st. coined by Esther Philips I believe.

It also works as a stand-alone box now, capable of downloading the programming directly to the unit from your TV. The original version had to be fed by your computer. You would purchase / download stuff to your computer and then feed it over to the Apple TV unit.
This is a major improvement in how it operates.

“There is a new Apple TV (Take 2) that lets you buy/rent stuff without having to sync to a computer. The old one can now be updated, but I don’t know if it can do everything the new one can.
The studios have been offering these releases to Apple for years. The catch is that Apple would have to provide a rental service. Apple has refused to do this up until now. Thus, they are late in the game. Quite a few services and products just like this have been out for a while now.

of course not. would the macbook run it? no, it isnt “pro”, so why would the marcbook air run it? the old macbook pro’s are still better than the new macbook air. it is like a macboon mini kinda. ipod better than ipod mini. stick with macbook pro if you want a mobile editing machine.
