[Pat DeFilippo] “At the same time, I was somewhat surprised that some type of HDDVD and/or Blueray “SuperDrive” was not announced by now, at least for the Mac Pro line. Instead, Steve Jobs’ moved away from optical drives altogether in the “Air”!”

Why the surprise? They announced an all new Mac Pro last week with no Blu-Ray burner. Why would they suddenly announce it this week? I was rather intrigued by all these folks expecting Steve to show off a Blu-Ray burner just a few days after the new machine was introduced with NO blu-ray burner.

I would think IF a Blu-Ray burner is coming, it will come in April when Apple shows off whatever toys they are including with DVD Studio Pro. After ignoring it completely last year, I have to hope that it will be revamped this year and add the missing link of Blu-Ray authoring.

That’s the most likely scenario. Macworld keynotes aren’t the place for professionals using Mac software… it’s about Apple’s gadget obsession

And, tomorrow at the “Super Meet” there is supposedly going to be a surprise announcement for us Pro Apps folks…

It’s a long shot but I’m hoping if there is something tomorrow it’s a refresh to the “30 display.

Did nobody read Michael Horton’s post in the first thread about this “secret?” As in the Michael Horton who is overseeing this Super Meet? As in he said there are no major surprises going to be presented by Apple?

After reading the specs and checking the prices again, why in the world would you even consider this laptop if you wanted to use it with any pro app?

In fact, other to say you have it, why would want this at all? Don’t really need to repeat my blog entry here, but honestly, a regular MacBook and MacBook Pro make so much more sense both for the regular consumer and the Pro user.

I’m with you on this one walter.

I just finished watching the surprisingly underwhelming macworld keynote….and as much of an engineering feat the macbook air is….i was left wondering why would anyone want this? The only market i could think of was journalists/writers who might appreciate the sleek and slim form factor, but for everyone else i kind of thought why wouldn’t you just buy a macbook if your a consumer and macbook pro for the power user?

and then the price! way more than a macbook and it seems you get less of a computer feature wise.

will be nice when they bring the gestures to the other notebook lines.

    Definitely ‘macpuzzled’ by the air

You’re right. Total waste of money. I was hoping they’d have a Macbook answer to the Asus EEE PC. A $300-400 laptop that fits in your jacket pocket. More useful than an $1800 laptop that fits in a manila envelope.

Great discussion going on about the merits of the MacBook Air and would you actually recommend one / purchase one over a standard MacBook / MacBook Pro.

I’ve already been told twice “You Don’t Get It.” What do you think?
