After Adding a text object that reads “TONIGHT 11PM” , I noticed that
there is a wider kerning between the “ones” in “11” than the rest of the entered text. I looks like some quirk in the default kerning.

My question is, how do I close the gap between the “ones” of “11”
without touching the kerning of the other letters?

    Thanks.

I guess you could make the text editable and move the points that you want.

Since the kerning in C4D is almost non-existent I always tell my students to create their text in Illustrator where they have great control over the text and then bring the outline into C4D. Just remember to save your Illustrator file as a version 8 file.

    Hope that helps.

I come from a design background, moving into 3D for the first time very recently. One of the first things I noticed about C4D was the lack of proper text formatting. It drives me nuts!

I can’t understand why they give you such great animation options with the mograph text object, but you can’t really take advantage of it if you have to create all your text in Illustrator… Or can you? I know you can disconnect and fracture your text, then use Mograph effectors to animate each letter separately, but it seems like such a hassle when the Mograph text object was made for just that.

Is this pretty common for most 3D apps? With C4D being the new popular choice for Motion Graphics and broadcast design, I kinda thought text formatting would be a no brainer.. Maybe they will address this in a future release?

Have a look at https://kernimator.com. This product is still in the early stages of development, but should help with basic kerning needs. Any feedback on this early version would be most appreciated.
