Jerry – Please provide details on converting HDV to DVCPROHD w/o a capture card
I’m trying to follow your October CCM article on this process, and avoid buying a capture card, at least for now. Editing HDV is annoying enouth that I would rather start up a conversion process and go do something else for a while to avoid it. Here’s what I have done:
I captured the entire footage in FCP using firewire, letting Log and Capture create new clips on Start/Stop. I then put all the clips into one sequence to Export Using Compressor. In Compressor, I selected DVCPRO HD 1080i60 in Advanced Format Conversions.
First question; Since HDV is 1440 rather than 1280, do I change the Width to 1440? (And, following that, do I change the Pixel aspect or the Constrain to display aspect?)
Finally, what file format should I select? When I first tried this, I let it default to QuickTime Movie, but the converted file lost all the clip breaks (which makes sense, since it is now a .mov movie). Is there a way to get a converted file with the clips identified, or do I need to forget clips in the capture process and identify them myself when I get the DVCPRO HD file back (Ugh!) Or…your thoughts please 🙂
Thank you for any help you and any others can provide.
