Is 1080i= 1440×1080

July 15, 2010 at 3:31 am1080i usually means 1920×1080 interlaced. This uses a pixel aspect ration of 1.0 (also known as “square pixels”).
HDV uses 1440x1080i with a non-square pixel aspect ratio of 1.3333. If you multiply 1.3333 x 1440 you get 1920! (ok, so you get 1919.952 but who is going to argue about 0.048 of pixel among friends?)
So all 1080i is really 1920×1080.
