  • installing fcp 7(not upgrade) over fcp 6

Posted by Michael Williams on January 26, 2012 at 5:06 am

I have a new, full-price version of fcp 7 (final cut studio 3) that I am installing on a leopard mac pro with fcp 6(final cut studio 2). Do I need to completely uninstall final cut studio 2 before installing the new version or can I just install the new software and the mac will handle it all appropriately?

If I need to uninstall first, what is the best way to do that?

    thanks,

    mike

UNLESS YOU WANT FCP TO BEHAVE BADLY, DO NOT INSTALL OVER THE TOP OF FCS2

Without question, before doing anything else, first clone your current system drive to a spare erased firewire drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.

Then, test the clone to make certain it boots.

Next, while booted to the bootable clone, erase the system drive with Disk Utility.

Now, get a copy of Snow Leopard, install it on the erased system drive (if you can’t get SL then stick with Leopard).

Run Software Update over and over until the OS tells you it’s Up To Date.

    Install FCS3.

Run Software Update over and over until it says all software is Up to Date.

    Now, go get creative.

Is very recommendable to uninstall FC6 first.
“Digital Rebellion” has a free application to do it.
