    Hey guys!

I’m looking to buy a handy/pocket size camcorders. And I really like the Kodak Zi8 a lot.
Only problem is, I saw a lot of complaints about importing the footage to Vegas because of its .mov format. Is there an easy way to fix this without buying any softwares??

i really need your help so I’ll know what camcorder to buy.

    Thanks!

I’ve read that it’s a simple matter of changing the extension from MOV to MP4 for this cameras output. This causes Vegas to decode it with it’s own h.264 decoder instead of letting Quicktime handle it.

I would try and get some sample footage from the camera and test it out before buying it. Maybe take a memory card to the store and shoot some footage and take it home to test.

In general, cheap h.264 cameras are a nightmare to edit and I would avoid them. Make sure you test for yourself on your PC before buying such a camera.

Isn’t there a software that comes with the camera that lets you convert the footage (Media Converter)?

I thought Kevin said it works without changing anything. Did you try that first? I have no idea what that software does. If using the native file doesn’t work just try changing the file extension to .mp4 without using any software.

I tried importing the .MOV file to vegas. The problem is, there is no video and audio. I then tried changing the .MOV to .MP4 with the software and without, there was audio but no video. I don’t know why.

What version of Vegas do you have? Kevin said that Vegas Pro 9.0 should handle these files. Otherwise I don’t know why it’s not working for you.
