  • how can u mend a broken…..file? bad interlace issues

    Hello again

I am working with some files my client supplied, and they show artifacts from not being de-interlaced properly, specifically a “wavy” effect over the image during tilts.
Research shows that the files were de-interlaced but not resized.

The originals are gone, so all i have are the files i was given

    HDV 1440 x 1080, 60i,

Is there any way to fix them? I have tried mutiple filters to re- and de-interlace and so on, and it all seems to come out the same.

I can probably do some “strobing” to minimize it, but its an industrial so the effect may not seem appropriate for the context!

thanx in advance! Luv the COW!

    I don’t get it.
Files were deinterlaced, yet you desribe them as 60i.
    Also, why artifacts during tilts?
Bad deinterlacing shows artifacts in pans more than in tilts.

Resizing has nothing to do with de-interlacing.
(although vertical resizing as if the files were progressive BEFORE interlacing causes major trouble)

So start over, what do you have got, and what is your timeline set up like?

Is the problem you’re describing what some folks call the Jello-cam effect? Or is it in shots that are static as well as in motion?

Just as I suspected. Thanx anyway. Luckily I have a few files where its not noticeable.

    thanx for responding!

Sorry about any confusion. To summarize more concisely, the files are exhibiting the artifacts before i even get them into final cut. The problem lies with the way the files were converted from camera original media, in this case SxS cards, to HDV 60i.

Resizing has nothing to do with de-interlacing.

Yes I believe that is what happened! I was assuming it was de-interlacing. (I should have merely said conversion, as I do not know how the originals were shot. My bad!)

    thanx

Its the jello cam effect, its on tilts as well as when there is some movement in the frame, X or Y.
