[Chris Borjis] “David, are you saying my quad G5 which drops frames and cancels capture within
10 seconds when I try to capture HD 1080 ProRes will actually succeed if it’s
    over a firewire connection? “

Hell yes!!! It works flawlessly on my dual 2.3Ghz G5.

Capturing to ProRes on the fly via firewire does not work like any other capture method, as it automatically captures first, then transcodes the material in the background, in something slightly slower than realtime. The interface actually displays information that tells you that the process is something like 25% or 30% behind the capture process, as it warns you not to bail out when the the tape gets to the end.

[Chris Borjis] “I’m still running 6.01 so I don’t have that capture preset/capability yet.
was that first offered in 6.02? “

I do believe it is possible that it was released in 6.0.2, so you might be SOL Chris.

HDV tape to hard drive via Firewire.

Forrest, you simply have to read the tutorial… That’s all there is to it.

Looking for best way to down-convert HDV captured clips to DV Pal.
Is exporting / edit to tape from TL an option or is it best to recapture in DV ?? Thanks

    Forrest,

When you bring up your Log and Capture, click on the Clip Settings and uncheck “Create new clip on Start/Stop.
