October 11, 2005 at 6:05 pm[GForget] “Just wondering if anyone has found a solution to this yet. We have called AJA, who told us that they are aware of the problem, but aren’t sure that is the problem is with their software… I have also contacted Apple, but have yet to hear anything back!!”
I’m sending a bug report to Apple several times a week via their Feedback form on their site. I’m going to keep annoying them until it’s fixed.
I’m dealing with about 50 captures today via HD-SDI and just doing the old ditch the clips in the browser and reimport them from the harddrive after it’s finished. This is a completely stupid bug and I have no idea what the heck is taking so long to fix it. Basically 720p Uncompressed captures are totally hampered and I really would recommend everyone avoid this setting until it’s fixed as it is an incredibly annoying thing to deal with.
Switch your 1200A over to output 1080i and it’ll work just fine. Stupid, really stupid bug.

yeah, but thankfully FCP is smart in folder order! So you can just select one of the “subclips” and right click to “show in finder” and then you just select all of the clips in the folder and drag them into FCP.
but I agree it is so totally stupid.
Maybe one day the FCP and QT teams may actually talk to each other.Gary Adcock

I would definitely be doing the 1080i work around, but the gov. standard for HD is 720p. So, all the raw footage is recorded 720p… I don’t know about converting to 1080i for editing and converting the finished product back to 720p…

Wow, that’s nice. Wish broadcast was the same way. We shoot 720 and edit 720p, but deliver 1080i via HDCAM. Would be a lot easier and cheaper if we could just deliver 720.
[GForget] ” don’t know about converting to 1080i for editing and converting the finished product back to 720p…”
No, I wouldn’t do that. Waste of drive space and easier to stay in one format.

Because the show I’m cutting loves the Varicam, as do I. Nope, nothing in the conversion, it’s perfectly clean.

Everything we shoot, archive, and/or release… including our field footage for possissible future use…. is required to be 720p

October 27, 2005 at 5:02 pmI thought I was going nutz!
I’ve been having EXACTLY the same issues and have lost two jobs over this dilema all the while getting the run-around
from Apple my dealer, and yes dear reader, even members of this board. (Operator error, indeed!) Curious if you are having
issues with dissolves and fade-in/outs in 720p also. We edit a lot of game trailers that rely heavily on such techniques and
have intermittant problems with these effects not rendering nor scrubbing correctly…I can’t figure out why this isn’t more of a discussion issue! Maybe there aren’t that many people who have to work
in 720p/59.94?Thanks for the workarounds.. Will have to try them next time we have a D5 in house.
best wishes,
Matt
