Getting the ProRes Codec
Posted by Brian Garnell on January 22, 2008 at 1:06 amIs buying Final Cut Pro the only way to get the ProRes codec?
Or by chance is Final Cut Express and Quicktime Pro enough?
Or by chance is there a secret codec somewhere that you can download?Martin Thoburn replied 12 years, 4 months ago 26 Members · 29 Replies -

January 22, 2008 at 1:16 amThe only way to get it is to have the Final Cut Studio 2 install discs… it only comes on there.

January 22, 2008 at 1:24 amThat’s a shame. Avid provides free access to their codecs – we make extensive use of that to get footage into other apps like AE. Would like to do the same with FCP and ProRes – but seems unlikely, especially as most of our systems are Windows…

January 22, 2008 at 5:10 pmIf you own the software and just need it on another machine, you can install the Qmaster (net render) package to get dvcpro/hd and prores.

August 25, 2010 at 1:04 pmI respectfully disagree Mr. Barker. If someone has this same issue in the future they might at least stumble upon this post. I did, and it just save me quite a bit of time.
