    Hello.

I am currently working on a project, that have an intro/outro using still-images, and I noticed, that when you create graphics in a DV-PAL project, the quality is quite poor, text doesn’t appear sharp and some vertical error occur.

However if I upscale the sequence to HD, the result is massively better.

So I was wondering, why Premiere Pro does this?

I’ll demonstrate what the problem is:

    Normal DV-PAL workflow:
    – New DV-PAL sequence (720×576, 1.4567 PAR)
    – Add graphics (looks horrible)
    – Export WMV (1024×576, 1.0 PAR) (looks horrible)

    Better workflow
    – New HD sequence (1280×720, 1.0 PAR)
    – Add graphics (looks crisp)
    – Scale DV-footage to framesize (creates small border top and bottom)
    – Export WMV (1024×576, 1.0 PAR) (looks crisp)

I thought that maybe it is because DV is intended for non-HD televisions, and not for web-use?

Can anybody please clarify why workflow 2 is better than the first?

No, hardly ever use web, but, If you downsize images say from 5616 x 3744 pixels to say 1920 x 1080 high definition format using Photoshop( multi processing you end up with images that will fit virtually exactly into the Premiere Pro timeline, add titles and background , voice over if you want/ it is braodcast quality in Cineform avi,or mpeg-2, HDV / m2t. No borders ,only if you want them in 16:9 Widescreen. D’not Export WMV? Never upscale pixelization may occurr.

We do say 1000+ sRAW2 approx 2784 x1856 from a Canon 5D mark II convert in Canon Professional>fine tune in Photoshop Import images to Project, automatically set transitions usually (dissolve)they are pin sharp) and presto they drop on the timeline, anyhow for what it is worth that is the way we work. And have done 100’s to Pro tape, BLu-ray etc , even downsized to SD DVD if you must, but some definition will be lost ….

    Happy editing
