Gamma shift X264
I’m having issues when encoding avi uncompressed video captured by fraps, to MP4 container with X264 video codec and MP3 audio codec. I’m using MediaCoder, latest release to set up the settings.

Using 3 pass (tried 1 and 2 pass), 8000 kbps, High Profile, Medium Preset, Tune (tried Normal and Film both look exactly the same) Level is set to Auto.
Computer: Windows
Operating system: Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate
Software MediaEncoder Latest Version
Source codec: AVI
Destination codec: MP4
Type of destination: Youtube Streaming -

I believe MediaCoder uses MEncoder to control how codecs encode/decode video. Have you messed around with any of the video filters either in Mplayer’s interface or within MediaCoder? If so, turn them off. About the only one that we’ve found worth using is the denoise filter (unless your source video is poor to begin with).
We use MediaCoder’s iPhone edition to encode videos for the iPhone and haven’t seen any color issues going to H264. Also, are you using the latest version of the software?

Btw, what exactly (monitor hardware) are you using to view these clips?
BTW: Have you take these still into photoshop and done any differencing tests on them?

I just noticed that if I play the clip in Media player classic instead of VLC then it looks correct.
