May 7, 2010 at 4:44 amHey Dan,
Why can’t we just go back to CMX, D-2s and the Kaliedescope!
This afternoon I was editing on our movie with my producer, we had to blow as shot up slightly to get rid of the boom holder on the edge of the shot, and I actually started to reach for my ADO, A-51,53,57 GVG whatever joytstick…. and I haven’t touched a linear edit suite since 2005, at Creative Digital in Atlanta.
My producer asked why i laughed at myself, and I took out my A-51 keyboard that I keep as a decoration on my bookshelf, and talked to him about the good Ole’ days back in Atlanta, GA.
Okay so this off topic, but it seemed like a good place to tell it

May 7, 2010 at 7:08 am5 GB of RAM seems rather small, especially if you can take advantage of a full 64-bit workflow.
I have a small one-man production business here doing a one-hour TV show on a regular basis, as well as other work for a few state and federal agencies. I have more than three times as much RAM.
And my system is stable, regardless of nested sequences.
Another thing: Never mix frame rates. It’s not hard to convert the footage to a common format, but unlike Avid, FCP will not do it automatically. As everyone else has said, it’s essential to understand the proper workflow and work accordingly.

May 7, 2010 at 7:11 amAh my next biz card- media carpenter. Video carpenter. Digital carpenter. Wait, Jesus was a carpenter. So when you’re choosing Avid or FCP, ask yourself – what would Jesus use? 🙂 … waits for lightning strike… phew.

May 7, 2010 at 7:19 amFor the rest of the world, what is ACE? And why is it significant that someone who has ACE behind his name complains about a software it needs to be taken note of?

May 7, 2010 at 1:51 pmIs it possible that somebody would write an article like that, in collusion with AViD just for the free press? Paid testimonials happen all the time. Paid product bashing as underhanded as that is, has to be part of the process too. I wonder if that is what is happening here.

Neil,
Edgar has a nice track record of employment in Hollywood that allowed him to join ACE, a prestigious and well respected group, with many very talented members. And, I’m sure Edgar is a very knowledgeable editor and probably a very nice guy too. However, as we all know, a membership card in a respected organization won’t make your NLE editing system run properly if you don’t have the right hardware and the technical systems knowledge to set it up and maintain it.
