    Hi all,

rather new to FCP so if this Q is daft, please forgive me.

I’ve just finished my first short (2 min) and after burning it via iDVD, I watched it on my DVD player and the freeze frame shots in the intro I did, are all jittery?? I used a trick I got off this forum about the ole >Shift-N for freeze frame clips and viewing/working in FCP it’s fine, but it’s all jittery once played on my DVD player??

    Why’s this?

I need to fix this problem asap cause I have to hand it in ASAP.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you do the old trick of watching your timeline play on an external monitor before exporting it out for a DVD? Sounds like interlacing issues and you can only catch that on an external monitor. You should NEVER work in FCP unless you have an external monitor on.

    Ahh thanks,…

But how do I fix the problem? “Interlacing” is new to me? Any tips?

Ok, you must be new to editing in general. Too much to go into on a simple forum like this but interlacing is how an image is projected on your TV. Odd Fields and Even Fields are interlaced to form the image. I’m pretty sure there’s some basic info in the FCP Manual about interlacing.

Thanks for your help and yes,.I’m new to editing (and loving it) BUT,…my manual has bugger all on the De-Interlacing and neither does the FCP “HELP?” part.

I’ve added the filter but now I’m confused again. In the field pop up menu, which do I pick?? Upper (Odd) or Lower (Even)?

I forgot to add too,..I run on PAL.

Desperate for help and thanks again in advance.

I don’t know which field is dominant in PAL. But here in NTSC land the field dominance is always the lower one. Just try both and keep the result that looks the best.

Can I test this before I burn it to disc to watch on my DVD player or do I have to just burn and hope for the best?

    Thanks again

If you watch your timeline play out to an external monitor, you’ll know right away if the interlacing is set correctly.

Thanks,….I went with the LOWER one and it seems to have fixed the jittering.

Thanks guys (all of you) for helping me out and teaching me a lesson in editing. I’m still learning.
