July 14, 2015 at 2:48 pm[Aaron Star] “Actually the iMac 5k with i7,32GB ram, SSD, and M295 GPU is $4268.00 not including tax or anything else.”
You can get a very beefy iMac 5K for $2999 with:
iMac with Retina 5K display
4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2x8GB
1TB Fusion Drive
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User’s GuideYes, if you max out all of the options with a 1TB SSD etc. you can drive up the price but it’s not needed. 16GB with a Quad Core is more than enough memory. My 12-Core Mac Pro only has 24GB (2GB per core) and I rarely make use of all that memory. Most video editors will have an external Thunderbolt RAID 5 for editing and won’t need massive internal storage. That’s the beauty of having Thunderbolt storage.

July 14, 2015 at 4:06 pm[Danny Hays] ” I will def. look into that, might have to try OSX with the new FCX again.”
You can watch my Boris TV episode on 3D Extruded EPS in FCP X. It will show you a pretty complex project done in FCP X and you can get a feel for the interface and how FCP X uses connected clips instead of tracks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmEyogfWLwA[Danny Hays] “IF Vegas or FCX could Key like I do using this Technic in After Effects, I’d be a happy camper. “
FCP X has a great keyer and tight integration with Apple Motion 5 which is only a $49 add on and gives you similar After Effects capabilities. Here is another Boris TV episode where I show you how I created a Custom Generator Preset in FCP X using Motion 5:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuJXa8AGWaU
This is extremely powerful when you consider that you can take something very complex in Motion and only expose a few controls and make your own preset for use in FCP X that’s very easy to re-use on multiple projects. The Drop Zone capability in Motion 5 allows you to create things like bumpers with slugs that you can replace right in FCP X without ever opening Motion again. It’s petty slick.~jr

Well I guess that’s what Catalyst Edit will eventually be. Sony realized that they needed a Mac solution and the only way to get there is with a complete rewrite because they were tightly coupled to Microsoft proprietary technology. So watch Catalyst Edit get better over time.
