Is it possible to do frame accurate edits with HDV footage and print to tape without rendering?

I’ve heard it’s like working with MPEG2 (well, I guess it is MPEG2 sort of) in that it’s not frame accurate and requires re-encoding when finished. You have to deal with the GOP structure and it limits you.

Anywhere I can read about that on the apple site or what’s your real-world take on it?

NO, not as the HDV codec in FCP, and The HDV codec is a variation of Mpeg 2,
the sony HDV format only allows for I frames at the GOP marker or at every 15 frames. So any edit or effect not on a “true” iframe, needs to be re-interpreted by the software so that you can lay it back to tape.

Search the threads on this or the HDV forum for more answers.
