Final Cut on Mac Book Air?
Posted by John Christie on January 24, 2011 at 9:05 pmOK, I know it’s not a recommended use. But I have a specific need for a second laptop to transcode Canon 7d and Panasonic AVCHD while on location. Size and weight is critical so I’m just wondering if anyone is running a stripped down FCP install on a Mac Book Air?
Cheers

January 24, 2011 at 9:38 pmNO need for FCP, you can use ClipWrap2 or Magic Bullet GRINDER (grinder for the DSLR footage) to do this.

January 24, 2011 at 9:47 pmGood point Shane, hadn’t thought of that.
Still interested to know if anyone is running FCP on a MacBook Air, though.

January 24, 2011 at 11:19 pmOH, it runs. But not many people use it as the Air doesn’t offer the Firewire connection FCP needs. If you are only converting, then going to USB drives will be fine. It’s playback that suffers with USB.

January 25, 2011 at 7:53 pmThanks Thomas, I’ll be editing on a 17″ MBP. The MB Air is just for transcoding. The MB Air will be a present to my wife after this one 4 day shoot and she doesn’t use FCP. (SHHH! It’s a secret, don’t tell my wife.)
Cheers
