  • FCP is forcing my imported video to 10 FPS…

Posted by Chris Dick on August 19, 2009 at 2:59 am

    … And I don’t want it to!

I’ve been capturing video using Snapz Pro and usually have it set to Pro Res 422 HQ, H264, or MP4 and ALWAYS as 30 fps. This has worked wonderfully in the past. Recently for no apparent reason when I import the footage the files frame rate changes to 10 fps in FCP. This is very strange since the file is 30 fps when played in QT but only 10 fps when once it’s imported to FCP. Am I crazy? I have looked at all the system settings and user settings and can’t find anywhere where it says to treat imported media a particular way. I’ve deleted all my preferences from my Library as well and have tried this on multiple projects with different timelines and still the same result…

    FCP changes my frame rate.

Anyone ever have this happen to them?

    Thanks

    Chris

This has always happened with SnapzPro media. There is something in the way the frame rate is written that FCP always interprets it as 10fps. You will probably have to process it through QuickTime or Compressor.

    All the best,

It’s weird. I’ve checked and rechecked in Cinema Tools and they are all at the right frame rate BUT here is the really weird thing. The clips that were put in a few days ago on the time line, they are at 29.97 … on the timeline, they look great… BUT in item properties they are NOW 10 fps and look yucky in the preview window and on the time line at a different location.

So this is now a problem that is affecting projects retro-actively.

    Very weird.

I’ve checked everything in Cinema Tools all is well, it’s strange because the problem is effecting projects from weeks ago, anythin that was imported from Snapz and worked fine for the last year now shows as 10fps. It is still 29.97 on the timeline but if I take that clip and put it on the timeline again, it is 10fps.
It is a problem that is attacking me retro actively 🙂

Yup…or use Cinema Tools to conform it to 30fps. I had to do that all the time.

I don’t know what your requirements are for your screencaps, but consider taking a look at Screen Flow. It’s a much more capable screencap application (in my opinion).

I have just encountered this same problem, and I AM using Screenflow (1.5.2). Never had this problem before, and I’m in a panic as I’ve got a deadline in a couple of hours and I’ve been up throughout the night!

I imported about a dozen such clips and about half of them are ok, but the rest are now 10fps within FCP, but still 25fps on the original QT files.

    Help!

You would have to import to fcp and rexport to get a solid 25 movie or run your orig exports through compressor.

    Hey Jeremy

    Your suggestion worked!

Many thanks for taking the trouble to respond

I’m having the same problem with SnapZ Quicktimes. I opened the clip in Cinema Tools, but the conform option was greyed out.

Compressor seems to work, but this seems like a ridiculous workaround. Does anyone have an idea as to why this happens? Were you using a registered version of SnapZ or the Trial?
