Extremely Slow Export out of FCP 7
Hi,
I used Log and Transfer to transcode clips out of Canon XF305 to ProRes. Everything is fine until I try to export it. It tells me that it will take 36 hours to export after running the whole night. It’s about 2.5hrs of footage. Any ideas why it takes so long? I did try both ways Quicktime movie and Quicktime conversion. I even dropped the quality to the lowest and it made no difference. Any ideas?

Ultimately, what are you trying to do?
What format is your timeline?
Red bar on it?

Your going to have to provide a LOT more info if anyone is going to be able to help you.
What codec are you editing?
What are your timeline settings?
What are your export settings?
What hard drives are you using?
How are those drives connected?Keep in mind the beat way to export it to simply export using current settings, then pull that video into compressor to convert it to the format you need.

Unless current settings don’t match the clip settings and all 2.5 hrs are getting rendered during output. Just need more info.

No red bar. Internal HD. Sequence matches the media. Render is set to “Same as sequence codec”. What other info can I provide. I am sort of new to FC

Ultimately, I am trying to make H.264 mp4. No red bar. When I dragged the clips to the timeline it asked me if I wanted the sequence to match the clips, so they are the same

Codec is same as sequence codec. Timeline settings: Frame Size 1280×720 HDTV 720p (16:9), Pixel Aspect Ratio: square, Compressor: Apple ProRes 422, QUality 100%, Audio Rate 48 kHz, Depth 16-bit Config: Channel Grouped.
I tried all kinds of export settings.. Using internal 500GB drive. 170GB on it free. I don’t mind exporting for 3-4 hours but 36 is a bit too long.

My 5-10 minute projects can take 15-30 minutes to make a file 640×360 (1/4 size) so 2.5 hrs would be 30minx4 for 5-10 min. Yep, thats about 30 hrs.

You should not be editing in h264. that’s what is screwing you up.

Shes editing pro res and exporting 2.5 hrs of full rez h264.

Then compressor should be used to make the h264. Not FCP
