expression to CHANGE SIZE OF A SOLID
Posted by Tom Gomez on June 11, 2013 at 5:51 pmFor a strange reason, I need to change the size of a solid without using scale…
Basically, is there any expression that lets me access Layer>Solid Settings>width & height?
THANKS!
Tom

June 11, 2013 at 6:37 pmExpressions can only set the value of a layer property—i.e., the properties that you can add keyframes to in the Timeline panel. This does not include things like solid settings.

June 13, 2013 at 7:56 pmHey Darby! Thanks for checking in.
I was able to find another solution, but the reason I needed to change the size of the solid was because I wanted to manipulate the PATH on the solid BEFORE a stroke effect on the solid took place. If you modify scale of the layer, it stretches the stroke itself, altering the weight of the line.
I was trying to use expressions to modify a vector path based on the position of various nulls. But from what I’m understanding, AE doesn’t let you tie things to points on a path. My next best option was to try and manipulate the path based on the size of the solid.

June 13, 2013 at 8:22 pmIt seems that you should look into shape layers. They give a lot of control over the order of operations for things like strokes on vector paths.

June 14, 2013 at 12:26 amYou might get the result you want simply by switching the continuously rasterize switch on for the solid layer and using the scale property. This will scale the layer and masks before the stroke effect is rendered as opposed to after.
