I would like to know, what do you guys normally do to your videos to enhance its looks? What effects do you put?

    This is what I put

Color Correction : Studio RGB to Computer RGB
: 3 color wheel adjust to color grade my footage
    Color Curves

Is this good to put in every video? And do you guys really recommend the studio rgb to computer rgb?

How bout audio too? how do you guys normally edit your audio in your films? what effects do you put to enhance the audio?

All I do is normalize the audio levels. That’s it.

Please share your sony vegas knowledge with me!

    Thanks!!!

Studio RGB to Computer RGB should only be used if you are delivering on the internet or PC. If this is to be viewed on TV then you don’t want to add this. You are on the right track with the 3 wheel Color Corrector and Color Curves. The Color Curves is what’s going to give you that film-like gamma. You might want to check out additional tools like VASST Celluloid, Magic Bullet Looks, or NewBlueFX Film Looks for more film-like settings.

As for audio, I use iZotope Ozone 3 to enhance the sound of my audio. It’s a great mastering tool to give audio some widening and sparkle.

I would agree with John, the Izoptope Ozone works GREAT with audio! They are on version 4 now and it has a lot more presets and also allows for mid-side audio adjustments too. As far as video, one thing I do since I shoot in HDV and deliver in SD (DVD) is add a little of Sony’s Sharpeness effect, it helps to preserve some of the “detail” look of my original HDV format. Magic Bullets and NewBlue film looks are awesome as well!! Good Luck!!

Thank you very much for that information! I always put the studio rgb to computer rgb to my clips and now I know when to use it.

As for the 3 wheel color corrector, should I adjust my gamma and gains there? or should I do those in the color curves?

I looked at the iZotope Ozone 3 and I find it a bit pricy, any tips on how to enhance audio using just vegas?

    Thanks very much!

I would adjust the gamma with Color Curves. It gives you more control but there are no hard and fast rules. Use whatever looks good to you.

Vegas does not have the stereo widening and enhancing tools that Ozone has. That’s what you are paying for. You can add EQ and compression and make it generally sound better but you need to know what you are doing. There is no secret formula. It all depends on what your audio sounds like and what you want it to sound like. We have training videos at VASST like Now Hear This: Superior Sound for Digital Video and Sony Sound Forge: Professional Power Tools for Editing Audio that can teach you a lot. Learning how to produce good audio is beyond a forum post.
