This is your graphics display card, not a video monitoring card. You want one of the AJA Kona series cards.

An HD critical monitor is only $1,600 for the Sony PVM14L5/1. That’s probably a savings over going out of house to CC. You can CC yourself and finish the project in house.

Just for client monitoring I use Digital Cinema Preview on my second monitor…looks great.

But for critical color correction…I just bought the PVM-14L5. Popular monitor that.

I’m in the process of building a small HD suite right now. For client monitoring, I’ve decided to go with the Kona3 board in a Quad G5, an Aja HDP to convert the HD-SDI data stream from the Kona to DVI and then to a Dell 24″ wide screen LCD monitor for the client desk. The Dell arrived a few days ago. The Aja equipment was shipped yesterday. With a little luck I’ll let you know how it works in a few days.
I will be checking into the Sony PVM-14L5 however. It seems to be a popular choice here. 🙂

For color correction, it’s still the monitor to go with.

for the client, we run a 50″ Panasonic Plasma because it can display the colors almost identically as the Sony. I didn’t go with a computer LCD screen because I haven’t found one that can close replicate the Sony excecpt the Apple Displays. But even there, I find it easier to hang the monitor on the wall and give the client some distance from it.

I’m embarassed to say this. I actually HAVE this monitor sitting on my edit desk right now. I just don’t have any of the digital input cards for it.
And, you know, for some reason I thought this model number sounded familiar…

Save your money and don’t buy a digital input card for it. Get a Kona 2/3 (only digital ins and has upconversion) or perhaps a Kona LH/LHe (analog inputs and no upconversion) and use the analog component inputs of the monitor. You are good to go.

so instead of getting the monitor card/board, i could just put the $ toward the kona 2 card (i’m running a dual 2.5) and hopefully save some money. but would this effect my critical color correction?
