Posted by Jack Entonces on December 6, 2006 at 12:22 am

I can’t play back my timeline in unlimited RT because I will get that “Warning – Dropped Frames” error message. I don’t want to work in Safe RT, because then I can’t see what I’m doing.
Does anyone know what I can do in order to be able to play back my sequence in Unlimited RT, without getting dropped frames? The message says to lower compression data ..and lower real time audio preference?
where do I do that? Any other suggestions?
I’m using FCP HD, on a MacBook Pro, 2gig Ram, video on external G-Raid FW 800 drive.
Editing DV video and a lot of PSD still photos. Usual capture settings. Usual sequence settings.
    DV NTSC … etc.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jack,

Do you have anything else plugged into a firewire port besides your FW 800 hard drive?

How full are your hard drives?

There are certain effects in which FCP just can’t keep up especially working with transparency, transfer modes, and keying effects. A fw800 drive is really not that fast and will have a hard time powering through heavy effects. What kind of effects are you doing? If you render as you go along, you will also save time and rt capability. You can lower audio preferences in your user preferences, but it won’t make a big difference for video. How many audio tracks do you have going?

    I have a 350 G-Raid FW 800 drive, mostly emply (300 available space).

The effects I’m making are very basic tilts and pans. I’m using a lot of .PSD files and some DV video.

I don’t understand why I can’t see or preview my effect somehow, before rendering it.
If I have to render every time I make a change in every effect, it is a huge waste of time.
Do I REALLY have to render as I go along, if I want to be able to see my effects, in Safe RT mode,
since I can’t get Unlimited RT to work?
There must be an easier way … am I missing something.
    Thank you,
    FCP newbie

Okay Jack, now that you said you’re a newbie I’m gonna guess that maybe you didn’t know about the stupid 1st sequence gotcha. Are you aware that when starting a new project, after properly setting the Easy Setup, that Sequence 1, which is already in the bin and looking mighty inviting, will not be setup properly, and that FCP really requires that you open a new sequence before editing?

Let me know if this one trapped you.
