  • Difference Between Dialogue Mixing for Film and Television (Soap Operas)

    Hi Everyone:

I have an interesting question to ask you. I was talking with someone yesterday about sound and he mentioned that there is a difference between film and television dialogue sound.

I listened to a Soap Opera and then a film and there did seem to be a difference. What I discovered was that on Television, the sound was more upfront and crisp yet the film sound was more smooth and distant. I’m not sure if I am explaining it correctly, but what I mean by more smooth and distant is like a muffled sound that’s audible. I think Smooth is the correct term.

Does anyone here know what I am talking about, since I am having difficulty articulating it? 🙂 If you do know how it’s done, I’d love to know how to accomplish this. What he said what that listening to the sound reminded him of television. I definitely don’t want that. LOL

    Many thanks,

    Debbie

Television programs rarely use ADR, while film is almost always ADR’ed.
