  • Creating an EDL in word for FCP?

Posted by Jeff Bloch on June 19, 2008 at 12:36 am

My buddy is having me edit his documentary and has just finished logging his field tapes. He is going to send me the tapes to obviously edit the project. My question is there an easy way that he can create an EDL in Word or such to cut and past time code or is there an easy process that someone has used in this situation before?

    Thanks in advance.

You can start the makings of a batch list in excel, then export that as a tab delimited text file.

    It’s a fairly easy process.

A quick Google search brought up this:

I have found Larry Jordan’s log sheet to be difficult
to use. Even following the instructions it is way
more complicated than need be. If you don’t follow it
to the letter it won’t work and that is easy to do.

The easiest way to do this that works for me is to
open an existing project, select your clips in the bin
    and export a batch list.

open that batch list in excel, then you will see
how its laid out. Remove the info there, since you
need it for a new project and just plug in your new
timecodes and clips names. save and import into fcp
    for batch list.
