Crash
Posted by Jeff Kelley on January 18, 2011 at 11:39 pmI am new to Adobe Premiere pro I am using CS5 on a mac. After finishing with a project which I had been working on for weeks, I went to use the Project Manager to collect all the elements into one folder, which it seems to have done. BUT! now when I try to open any version of the file, Premeire crashes. I have a few different versions on the original folder (doing “save as” once in a while for protection) and even the new version it copied into another folder crashes the program. Tons of work down the drain unless someone can help me!
Thanks!

January 19, 2011 at 3:18 pmThanks for taking an interest. I am on a brand new maxed out intel imac running OSX.6.4. Premiere is 5.0.2. Bought it new a 6 months ago.
It crash while loading the data. The file opens up and it looks like it is about to be ready to work, there is still messages at the bottom letting me know it is loading all the files and them Opps – gone!
I do Save As’s to protect myself in case of corrupt files, but in this case, all versions crash. I am working on 3 similar projects that I haven’t used the project manager to collect, and they are fine, so I think I will not be using that function again.
I even tried the Auto save version and that didn’t work either!
Update-I used one of the auto save versions that was looking for missing stuff. instead of linking them p, I just said “Skip all” and the file opened. How odd? This file is a week old so I may still have to redo a bunch of work.
Thanks!!!!

January 19, 2011 at 3:36 pmOk, another update. So I took that old file that opened without me linking all the files. I was going to one by one link them up until I figure out which file was causing the crash. Since most of the files are in one place, when I did my second test, it opened fine, with all the files linked up???
So I went back to one of the files that were crashing, figuring I’d hide all the art and link them up one by one, but it now opened fine! What is going on! I mean I’m glad my file is OK but I really wish I understood what this scare was all about?

January 19, 2011 at 4:02 pmany of your media files in the proj mgmt version have unusual names or weird characters in the filenames?
did you perhaps pull still off the web (for example) and not change the names prior to importing to PPro?

January 19, 2011 at 4:14 pm> Premiere is 5.0.2.
There is no reason to be using 5.0.2 right now.
The Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) update fixes a lot of problems, including several crashes.
(If you’re using a Mac with an ATI card, both the 5.0.2 and 5.0.3 updates may introduce some problems, so for people with that configuration who are experiencing crashes, we’re currently recommending running 5.0.0.)

February 8, 2011 at 6:16 pmJeff,
I am curious if you are still seeing crashing. Did you go to 5.0.3, or back to 5.0?
What graphics card do you have in your mac?
I have a similar scenerio that I am chasing…
Thanks,
Tom Grotting

June 27, 2011 at 6:47 pmThe Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.4) update fixes the problem of crashing on Mac computers with ATI cards. Premiere Pro CS5.5 doesn’t have the problem.
