I am currently shooting mostly in HDV and have been operating on a Toshiba Laptop. Will the configuration below run smoothly and eventually allow me to upgrade to CS5?

Video Card: PNY Quadro FX 1800
    12GB DDR3 Memory
    Hard Drive: Western Digital 1TB x 2

    Power Supply: Corsair 1000 Watt
    Cooling Corsair H50 x2

In my humble opinion, it totally depends on the type of work you do. If you edit short-form or long-form video, multicam, HD or SD. What format are you editing in? If its AVCHD you will need to lean toward more power…….just too many variables to say.

    I run a:

    3.2ghz AMD Phenom 2 6-core proc.
    Asus Crosshair IV Formula board
    16 GB 1333mhz RAM
    GTX260
    Velociraptor 10k system drive
4 – Hitachi G-raid external Raid-0 enclosures connected via eSata for media, scratches, export, proj files etc.

I can cut four 1-1 1/2 hour long clips of AVCHD footage natively in the multicam window on full quality, full frame-rate. With ZERO stutter or lag.

All depends on what you wanna do/spend

    Cheers

I am currently shooting HDV, but I regularly come across 1920×1080 .mov files from DSLRs. Most of my work is shortform, single-cam, EFP (business video, local/regional commercials etc.). Like I said, I have been able to squeak by with a laptop for post, but it is time to step up to a more versatile system. I use CS4 and frequently have PR, AE, PS open and running at the same time. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    best regards,

    Asher
