Hey, if someone is still trying to solve this problem, I struggled with it for some months, and after reading some forums, I did two things that solved it, so I don’t which one was the responsible.

    1) I went in Compressor to the Menu Compressor –> Reset Background Processing (even though I had already cleared out any other running processes in the Batch Monitor.
    2) I set the Priority to “medium” instead of “High” in the dialog box that pops up after you submit…

    I hope this helps someone.

    Cheers.

Whenever i start Compressor, the first thing I do is to fully clean the “History” window.
I had very bad experience with Compressor re-taking some jobs that I sent and after i’ve stopped.

First, clear the history in Compressor.

Then go to your finder and hit command-shift-g and then type /var/spool/qmaster

Delete any folders out of there and restart your machine.

    Try again.

What are you compressing by the way and do you have a virutal cluster set up?

[Adam Farnsworth] “So, with that in mind, I tried your suggestion, but /var/spool/qmaster cannot be found, evidentially.”

    yeah, that’s a problem.

[Adam Farnsworth] “I’ve tried wiping Final Cut Studio from the system and reinstalling, but that doesn’t seem to do anything”

How? did you use FCS remover?[Adam Farnsworth] “I think the last thing left is a full system wipe. Not really looking forward to that.”

    Why ever not? 😉

Would creating the folder cause QMaster to jump on board? Or is there a way to reinstall it?

I used AppZapper on all the separate apps. Would I have had better luck with FCS remover or does it do the same thing, but just FCS specific?

I don’t know, seems like a poor way to spend a day. 🙂

Thanks so much for your continued help! I really appreciate someone being in the foxhole with me.

OK, so to keep everybody up to date, I got a new iMac, and installed FCS on it, and did not have the problems I was having with the copy on my laptop. But, last week, it started again. I tried Compressor Repair, and that fixed it for a couple of days, then it stopped working.

This may be an unrelated problem, because I tried to reinstall Compressor after using AppZapper to delete it. But, now when I launch Compressor, the main window isn’t there, in fact none of the windows launch, but as you can open the Inspector, History, Preview, Settings and Destinations windows from the Window menu, those aren’t a problem. What is a problem though, is that the main window, where you drag settings and destinations, is not an option to be launched. You can go to the Film menu and select “New Batch” but that doesn’t do anything either.

So, with that in mind, I tried your suggestion, but /var/spool/qmaster cannot be found, evidentially. I don’t know. I’ve tried wiping Final Cut Studio from the system and reinstalling, but that doesn’t seem to do anything, I’ve trashed the preferences for Compressor, Final Cut, QMaster, and Batch Monitor. I’ve tried a selective reinstall, but that’s crippled Compressor more. I think the last thing left is a full system wipe. Not really looking forward to that.

[Adam Farnsworth] “Would creating the folder cause QMaster to jump on board? Or is there a way to reinstall it? “

I doubt it. If it’s not there, it seems to me that there’s something else going on. A full remove and reinstal of FCP should take care of it.

[Adam Farnsworth] “I used AppZapper on all the separate apps. Would I have had better luck with FCS remover or does it do the same thing, but just FCS specific? “

Correct, it’s FCS specific. AppZapper doesn’t go into the amount of detail that is needed to remove FCS.

[Adam Farnsworth] “I don’t know, seems like a poor way to spend a day. 🙂 “

    Totally.

Yeah, I assumed, so I’ll give it another go with the FCS Remover, and see where we’re at.

Yes! Using FCS Remover and reinstalling seems to have fixed it. I’m rendering my first attempt through Compressor out now. So far, so good.

Thanks again for all your help! Not sure what keeps glitching, but I guess I know a way to fix it now…
