  • Compressor 3 – Hit Submit, Nothing Happens

I need help. About a week ago Compressor just stopped working. It appears to be working fine, I’ll export to Compressor, select my settings, and hit submit, and it’ll add a line to the History panel, but it doesn’t actually start processing it.

I’ve checked the Qmaster, nothing was changed there, I trashed every preference I could fine, and I’ve reinstalled everything twice, still nothing. I really need Compressor working. I’ve got the trial of DV Kitchen for some encoding, but I don’t want it as a permanent fix.

    Please help!

First, Quit Compressor and go to the Finder.

Then hit command-shift-g. Type this in the resulting dialogue box: /var/spool/qmaster and then delete the oddly named folders in the qmaster folder, but leave the qmaster folder in place. It might look something like this:

    Restart your computer.

Then open Compressor and clear the history.

    Then try submitting another job.

Thr trick is to delete thoser folders, reboot, then clear the compressor historyin that order.

If that’snot working, you need to totally uninstall then reinstall compressor.

Apple has a whitpaper about how to do that here:

    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888

    Remove and reinstall Compressor
To reinstall Compressor effectively, you need to remove the application, its receipts and associated files, then install Compressor and use Software Update to install additional updates. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Compressor. Note: Make sure that you have the installation discs for the application that Compressor was bundled with and the serial number handy before starting this.

Use Finder to remove the following listed items:
    /Applications/Apple Qadministrator.app
    /Applications/Apple Qmaster.app
    /Applications/Compressor.app
    /Applications/Utilities/Batch Monitor.app
    /Library/Application Support/Apple Qmaster (the folder)
    /Library/Frameworks/AECore.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Compressor.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/MediaServerAPI.framework
    /Library/Frameworks/Qmaster.framework
    /Library/Logs/Qmaster (the folder)
    /Library/PreferencePanes/Apple Qmaster.prefPane
    /Library/Receipts/Compressor.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/ProMediaIO.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg
    /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster (the folder)
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
    Type the following path:
    /usr/sbin/
    Click the Go button.
Locate the following items from that Finder folder, and drag them to the Trash:
    qmasterca
    qmasterd
    qmasterprefs
    qmasterqd
In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.
    Type the following path:
    /var/spool/qmaster/
    Click the Go button.
If there are any folders inside the qmaster directory, drag them to the Trash.
If you have Motion installed, drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
From your install disc, reinstall Compressor and Apple Qmaster (and Motion, if applicable).
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.

Wow, I messed my system up something good. Thank you for all your help, but deletion and reinstall didn’t do the trick. Still sits.

I’ve reinstalled Final Cut Studio three times now, and nothing. I’m afraid I’ll have to back up and reinstall the OS next. Any more ideas before I do?

[Adam Farnsworth] “Any more ideas before I do?”

Back up everything, and do a total wipe and install.

What is your Ram situation like?

I’ve got 2GB, I was going to upgrade, but am putting the money toward getting a desktop in the nearish future. Would RAM be a factor here?

What are your system specs and what kind of encode are you doing?

I’m on a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Book Pro running Leopard 10.5.5. I’m usually trying to encode in H.264. Sometimes I use Photo JPG if I’m working with older systems.

Oh, I also have the Episode 5 plugin installed, but have not been using it. I assumed it would be wiped when I reinstalled, but I should probably lose that, then reinstall again.
