    Hello all

I have a month off…so I’m going to get to grips with FCPX if it kills me and I am beginning to get my head round it. It has opened doors for me with titling and keyframing now so intuitive. It’s beautiful isn’t it in many ways.

But with auditions I have a problem:

I have created a sting and want to audition my graphic in different durations which is fine except when I play the two extra versions the audio (a simple swoosh) disappears for versions 2 and 3 but remains for original version. Is there no way to lock off the audio? Why does the audio not remain as it is “detached” audio I sourced from Music and sound (brilliant by the way to be able to access all this stuff direct from the interface.

Thanking you in advance…I have searched the forums and cannot find anything relevant…aplogies if it is there somewhere.

Any clips that are attached to the primary become part of the Audition when the Audition is made in the primary.

You could put the music in the primary, have your graphics choices as connected clips and setup the Audition as a connected clip.

You could compound the graphics choices and audio and set those compounds as auditions.

You can also select the clips in the Event, make an Audition clip, and add that audition clip as a connected clip.

There’s more ways too such as make compounds in event, then audition the compounds.

Obviously I am doing something wrong

I have audio (detached) on A1 (apologies for FCP 7 lingo) and the first clip I dropped into timeline in auction plays with the audio but when (in auction mode) I select either of the two other options it disappears…I know it’s something stupid I must be doing just cannot figure it…by the way not only does it not play but it also disappears from audio “track”.

    Best

As I said in the original post. Anything that is attached to an Audition clip in the primary becomes part of that Audition. If you add a new clip to that Audition, the connected clip sticks with the first clip as it is part of that Audition.

I then explained how to move around it.

Very simply, move your Audition clip out of the primary.

thanks..once in primary audition does not seem to want to move out of it. Guess I have to start from scratch…but cannot create audition in any “layer” other than v1…sorry primary storyline.

I though the whole point of auditions was to be able to try out different shots but it would seem logical that one might one the shots to be associated with the same piece of audio.

Thanks for your feedback and help

[James Ewart] “thanks..once in primary audition does not seem to want to move out of it. Guess I have to start from scratch…but cannot create audition in any “layer” other than v1…sorry primary storyline.”

Select the clip (hover your mouse over the clip and hit ‘c’). Then hit Command-option-Up Arrow.

You can create an Audition clip in any layer.

It’s possible James, I suggest you reread my original post.

Thanks I have re read your original post d well written and accurate I am sure it is…

I just don’t understand I’m afraid…I’ll go and buy FCPX for dunces I guess!

Just one of these options (whichever is simplest in your view) in a brief 1,2,3 would be brilliantly helpful.

[James Ewart] “”You could put the music in the primary, have your graphics choices as connected clips and setup the Audition as a connected clip.” “

OK. For this one, you put the music selection in the primary. You add a clip (one of your graphic endings) as a connected clip to that music.

You select the graphics clip which is now a connected clip (hover and press c), find the next graphics clip you’d like to ad to the audition, drag it to the original clip, wait for the ‘+’ sign and let go. Choose “replace and add to Audition”. You could also use the keyboard shortcut Shift-y.

[James Ewart] “You could compound the graphics choices and audio and set those compounds as auditions. “

This combines the music and graphics choices together, then you make an Audition out of those compound clips.
