  • Child layer jumps when parenting

Posted by Alex Ezorsky on March 4, 2018 at 4:47 pm

I’ve noticed this many times and never been able to figure out what causes it.

Currently I have two layers, one with position animation and one where the position keyframes have been turned off. They are currently aligned perfectly. When I parent the layer without keyframes to the one with keyframes the child jumps slightly. Both have non-animated changes to their scale and rotation as well. I am not holding any modifier keys when applying the pick whip.

Anyone know why it jumps and how to get it to not?

    Thanks

I’ve done some more testing and it seems related to the fact that the two layers have non proportional scaled attributes that the scale deformation compounds when parenting. Hmn…still looking for solutions.

Sorry for my strange wording, I meant the keyframe enable stopwatch on the child was turned off (not enabled) to prove it wasn’t a compounding issue with the child having it’s own keyframes
