Cannot drag audio files to timeline in Sony Vegas Pro 8
I am trying to add ausio to my project. I can import audio files to the project media, however, when I try to drag the audio file to the timeline, it won’t let me. When dragging, a O with a / appears. I used to be able to move audio to the timline, yet now i can’t. I have no problems with dragging video or pictures, only have problems with audio files.

What codec does the audio files use and do you have that codec installed? If the audio is AC3 Vegas will not allow you to drop it on the timeline. You’ll have to convert it to a WAV or other file that Vegas can edit.

They are .m4a files, the ones from my iTunes. I used to be able to use these, but not anymore…

Do the iTunes files have DRM? If so, they won’t work in Vegas. Otherwise follow Mike’s link and try and back-level Quicktime and see if it helps.

I’m still confused. Even if I am starting a new project on Vegas, I can’t put any iTunes music on my timeline, yet i can put .mP3 files. WOuld the best choice be to convert any music I want to use on SOny vegas to an mp3 file?

You didn’t answer my question. Do the iTunes files have DRM? MP3’s don’t have DRM so they will always work. In general I would not use Apple’s proprietary format. I convert all of my iTunes purchases to MP3.

I don’t know how to check if they have DRM, but I converted the .Mp4 to a mp3, and it worked fine on Vegas.
Anyway to bypass the DRM by not having to convert the audio to mp3 everytime?

Sure! You can bypass it by avoiding sites, like iTunes, which use DRM.

Because all my music I use for video projects are from iTunes, is there anyway to not have to convert the music to mp3 every time that I want to use music?

Buy the CD and you won’t have these problems.
You’ll also get much better audio quality.
DRM is the world we live in today so we have to get used to workarounds if we choose to ignore the laws.
