I was wondering if someone could explain to me why there are lines (About 0.5 % of the clip… pretty small) on each side of the videos I import and edit from DV cam tapes through firewire. These don’t appear on top.

As far as I can see I am editing in the same format as the imported video, NTSC DV 720×480 .

I am having to crop all the clips, and these lines appear again when I use the clip as a PIP.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

    Vince

For some strange reason, this is the case with DV footage. Use the clip or crop video effect and tape 1 pixel off of each side. It works like a charm…

There is no reason to crop them off as they are well outside the viewable area on a television. Actually, those “handles” are a side effect of the compression format of DV and are the resulting left-over pixels outside the collection area on a DV CCD imaging chip. It’s a side effecct of working in a non-square workspace.
