  • Batch Export Doubles Video Length

Hey, I’ve encountered an odd problem. I’ve imported some XDCAM HD footage into final cut pro, and used the batch export tool, to create DV files for editing (they need to be edited on an older version). After 10 hours of exporting, I now find out that each clip has doubled in length, adding black video to the end of the clip. I checked the original files, and it is in the conversion the problem exists. It propably won’t give any problems in the editing, since the timecodes are preserved (albeit the black video timecodes of course overlaps later clips timecode, but that part won’t be used), but I’m very curious to know, why this has happened. In the export settings I chose quicktime movie, DV PAL 48Khz Anamorphic. Do you have any ideas?

Oh, just had a revelation. The footage was shot with 720p and 50fps. Maybe the batch exporter has problems converting 50fps to 25fps, and compensates by doubling the length…

    Hi Christian,
Really curious behave. Never heard of before.
Yes, it sounds like a miss-management of the p50.
    How did you exported?
QT? QT Conversion? Batch? MM? Compressor?

I selected all my clips, right-clicked, and chose Batch Export.

Batch Export is QT Conversion. No much control.
    You may try with Compressor.
If the quality is not an issue, let the “Frame Control: OFF”.

Ok, I’ll do that, if we get issues with the files. Right now, the timecodes match up between the HD material and the converted ones, so it might be good. But how do you export that many clips using compressor? There is about 3-400 seperate clips, so I wouldn’t want to export each seperately.

    Hi Christian,
With Compressor is as easy as a Batch Export.
Select all the clips and “Send to Compressor”.
In Compressor “A new job” to apply the same conversion setting and destination.
But I’m thinking about a problem: With Compressor you can not keep the files TC.
A solution may be using the media Manager, but in this case i’m not sure if you will keep the name of the files.
    A bit complicated.
