    Hi everyone,

The 32-bit version of the aviplug.dll that I found fixes the problem should be attached. This file comes straight from the 32-bit install of Vegas 10 Pro. Good luck!

    1) Quit Vegas if you have it open
    2) Rename your old file to aviplug_old.dll
    3) copy the file in the attached zip archive to the exact same folder
    4) Restart Vegas.

Hopefully it should work for you too!
    If it does, please post.

    Thanks!

If you have problems downloading it feel free to email me through my website.

    Thanks Dave,

I did what you described and it works now.

I found 2 aviplug-files: one of 1,07 MB (Vidcap) and one of 584 KB (FileIO). Yours is 550 KB.

I changed the .dll file in the FileIO folder and it works now. I did not change the .dll file in the Vidcap folder.

    Pretty remarkable I must say.

Glad it worked for you too! There’s definitely a bug in the 64 bit version.

Yes, just change the FileIO one (glad you figured that out) as I had no idea there were two.

Thanks for letting us know it works for you too!

Hi, im having the same problem? Well i think so anyway, see the thing is im only a teenager and i know nothing about computers! Haha. But anyway, i have Sony Vegas Pro 10, and i cannot open .avi videos! 🙁 I can see that you have found a solution to this? But i dont get your explanation at all, (sorry, its not your fault its mine, im not good with computers as i said) but you said to change the file name? Change the file name on what? If you could help i would really appreciate it. Thank-you. 🙂 x

Change the file name of the aviplug.dll file that’s already installed in the FileIO plugin folder because that’s what you’ll be replacing.

If you have other questions, please take it off line and email me through my website so this thread doesn’t get cluttered.

    Thanks!

Hi, I followed the steps and the problem seems to continue. Eever since I installed Vegas 10 64bit, it is certainly able to import avi files but the program imports the files wrong they look ockward with a split line from corner to corner and no color… any comments??
    Thank you in advance

Use Gspot, find out what codec you need, convert it to a wmv/mov file, and then import it.

Thank you so much for this, Dave! I about had a panic attack when my Vegas wouldn’t recognize .avi, however your ‘trick’ worked perfectly 😀 And its a good thing you suggested renaming the original instead of pasting over, because I originally put the file in the wrong folder!

    Thanks again!

This worked a treat – a very simple yet effective solution to an otherwise needless problem (get your finger out Sony).
