audio problem in vegas 6…help
Posted by Donna Lutz on December 19, 2005 at 6:46 amI just installed vegas 6 on my new hp pavillion a1250n with amd dual processing. When I extract audio off of a cd and play it back in vegas it sounds bad. There are popping sounds in the music. I tried playing some other audio on real player, and it sounded ok. Is there a compatability issue here with the hp’s sound card and vegas? Please help anybody!!!!!!!!!!!

December 19, 2005 at 7:10 amI extracted the audio in vegas 6 under the file tab where it says extract audio from cd. I wanted to see if that same audio sounded bad in real player, and when I played it there, it sounded a lot smoother. I just tried it in windows media player, and it didn’t sound very good in it either. If it were a problem with the sound card in general, it wouldn’t sound right on any of them, would it?

December 19, 2005 at 7:24 amI just tried ripping the same cd with media player, and it didn’t sound right either. It still had the pops and skip sounds. Any ideas what could be wrong?

December 19, 2005 at 11:04 amThe sound card shouldn’t be used for cd ripping at all; it’s a digital copying process.
Try CDex (https://www.download.com/CDex/3000-2140-10226370.html) to a .wav, and try playing that .wav on another machine.

The sound card plays no part in the “RIP”
First verify if its a soundcard issue.
IE: record from a microphone and play it back.
Is this a “garbling” at all or just glitches,skips, and popsIs the CD-rom (whatever the drive is that your ripping from)brand new as well??.
Did it ever work ??
Does It play OK in real time.
Did you (can you try another drive in that new computer ??
there is a chance that she cant rip properly.I have an older cd-rom that had limitations on its read speed and another that got dirt on the lazer.
The CD-rom specs told the computer that a full speed “RIP” was do-able but in actuality it couldnt rip it fast enough. Same with the dirty lens… it starts to pull the data but resamples too many times due to a bad/dirty read so the ROM buffer runs out and you’ll get glitches and errors.Try this.
Preferances/CD settings/ extract optimization.
set the fader all the way to the left. click OK then RIP a song.
test for glitches.Good luck

December 19, 2005 at 3:35 pmA long shot here but was the drive you ripped the music with a DVD drive? If it was and it is a new PC just check the following. Go to ‘my computer’ and find the drive icon for the drive you ripped the music with. Right click on it and select ‘properties’. On the properties dialogue look for the ‘hardware’ tab. Click on this tab and you should see a list of the drives on your HP Pavilion. You should see listed the drive you ripped with, select it. Now click on its ‘properties’ dialogue box, which is down towards the bottom of this window. This will now open another ‘properties’ window, on this should be yet another tab called, believe it not, ‘properties’. The settings on this final properties window determine how Windows will use this drive for playing CD music. On this window you should find a check box with the description ‘Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device’. If the check box doesn’t have a tick in it click on it to select it. Now try ripping again and see how you go.
I am not saying this is the answer but I have seen similar problems occur with ripped audio when this checkbox has not been selected. Post back how you go. We may have to scratch our collective heads further if this doesn’t work!

December 19, 2005 at 4:16 pmThank you I will try this. The drive is brand new as well. The whole computer is brand new. I may also try hooking an external drive to the computer and see if it works. I will let you know what happens.

December 19, 2005 at 5:44 pmI tried this, and the digital audio box was checked. I think there must be a problem with this computer. I even tried an external drive on the computer, and it still pops. Any other ideas?
