audio droppouts upon capture
Posted by Carlo Villongco on January 19, 2006 at 2:42 amHi Folks,
I’ve been experiencing dropped audio and digital artifacts on captured video
I’m using my VX2000 to capture video for 2 years now without a problemso I did some investigation:
– footage viewed on the camera’s LCD screen is solid
– footage viewed through the analog output also has no problem
– camera connected to a second VX2000 via firewire also has no problem
– the only time I see the problem is when I connect the camera to the computer via firewire 1394any ideas??
thanks

it wasn’t the hardrive…
since I would see the dropouts on the preview without even actually capturing to the hardrivethanks

January 19, 2006 at 7:55 amIn that case Carlo, you could try checking the firewire cable and/or connections at either end. If you can see dropouts on preview it sounds like something between the cam & PC.

January 19, 2006 at 8:06 am… just in case it makes a difference, try capturing without preview on screen – “smart preview” will do this. If resources are stretched for whatever reason, removing preview may release enough to get a good capture. (Use cam for preview.)

January 19, 2006 at 8:11 amI have tried 4 different PCs and 3 different cables
very strange…the footage was shot on LP ( err )
though I’ve seen this happen on SP footage but not as severeI’ll do more tests untill I get to the bottom of this
thanks

January 19, 2006 at 8:24 amMmmm – hard to track these down sometimes. May be related to LP footage …
Since you say it looks ok connected to the other camera, have you tried capturing it via that camera ? (disable device control first). You could try firewire to the other camera, or analog to other cam if the first way doesn’t work.
Good luck …

January 24, 2006 at 7:33 amDropped frames are almost ALWAYS a result of the computer unable to keep up with the data flow from the camera. Something in your data path is slow. Could be a fragged disc, could be new software or adware, could be your IO mode on the disc.
LP or SP has absolutely nothing to do with it because the data is exactly the same.
Zero dropped frames is the only acceptable number.
