Yep, there’s a very simple thing that should have been done right from the get go.

March 2, 2007 at 4:02 pmI’ve heard elsewhere (Independent of Walter) that Final Cut 6 will be unveiled at NAB. And like the old adage goes…”Where theres smoke…there’s usually fire.”

If you read all the rumor sites leading up to NAB 2005, they all said the same thing. Of course last year Apple bypassed on a special event so it’s probably more likely this year.
But as I’ve said before, if they spread the rumor enough times, when the product is finally unveiled they can claim they were right.

March 2, 2007 at 5:53 pmThey may not announce it at this NAB, but octo cores are certainly on the horizon. Saw a presentation by someone who had played with an hp octo, I believe, he was blown away, as expected. Everything has its own fan – the ram, the video card. Dual video cards, some ridiculous RAM capacity. It will be a monster, for sure.

My bad. I thought AVID did autosaves in the background.
The last time I edited on the Media Composer about three years ago
I don’t remember it being an issue like with FCP where you can sit there for 15 to 30
seconds with larger projects.Dan

March 2, 2007 at 8:07 pmIn around 1996-8 when cpu speeds were up in the 250mhz range SGI and SUN work stations were using multi processor multi lane architecture to achieve the blazing fast speeds of the day. I remember the 4 processors but I’m not sure about 8 processor configuration but this technology is nothing new. Apple 9600’s were the absolute bottom of the totem pole and windows NT wasn’t out yet or it just arrived enabling video editing on the pc. It’s surprising dual processors took so long to materialize. With this kind of power and if Apple can unify shake more closely with FCP we could see some of Discreet’s real time performance capabilities on our macs. It’s all about power and flow.
