Any news on the HPX2100?
Posted by Peter Corbett on November 26, 2006 at 8:12 pmAs I understand the HPX-2100 will be released in January. I haven’t read diddly squat about it besides the initial PR release. Any word out there on the new camera?

November 27, 2006 at 12:06 amIf you learn anything, can you try and remember to post back here? I am curious about the H.264 based codec and what it means for quality and editing, or if that’s just vaporware.

November 27, 2006 at 12:28 amWill do. The Panasonic rep talked about the H264-codec; defintely no vapourware. I’ll be looking at an actual production model apparently. (Digital Media World Dec 5-7)

Isn’t that the first of the AVH264 cameras… using the H.264 codec to compress it down and record on a disc?

November 27, 2006 at 9:37 pmThe compression will be really light with 100mbs. H264 looks gorgeous at 8mbs so who knows what 100mbs will look like. Excellent I imagine. I also hear great things about the JPEG2000 format Infinity uses. Tape and optical disc 😉 cameras are really to feel the pinch from these two new technologies.

November 28, 2006 at 12:49 amWhile you’re there, see if they’ll tell you anything about the new HPX500. That one sounds sweet! 2/3″ chips, interchangeable lens, four P2 slots, and everything the HVX does — 24P, 30P, 720/60P, 1080/60i, variable frame rates, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO, DV, etc. Only thing we’ve seen so far was a Japanese press release, but it would be great to hear something further!
