Can someone please explain to me in simple english what the difference between the aja io la video card and video device are? There is a $1,000 price difference. I need it to input analog video/audio to final cut pro. My needs are simple, right now I either transfer everything to mini-dv, or use a dv camera for pass-through and input that way, but this will save time. Thanks, I’m sorry to be such a goon. ;->

Are you referring to the io la vs the Kona LS? Or are you referring to the io vs the io la?

Shoot, I don’t know. I didn’t know about the Kona. All I know is that one is $899, and the other is more like $1,899. I’ll have to do more research! I think I’m referring to the io vs. the io la.

The iola just does analog, the iold just does digital, the io does both.
I have an IO and it works great for SD. Blackmagic Design also has products
for that (but not FW like the IOs). Both AJA and BM sell cards that are cheaper than an IO, IOLA, or IOLD.

There is NO Io Video Card. There is the AJA Io, the AJA Io LA, the AJA Io LD. These are all external boxes that connect via Firewire.

AJA Io – Analog and Digital Video and Audio I/O

AJA Io LA – Analog Video and Audio I/O only.

AJA Io LD – Digital Video and Audio I/O only.

Then you want the Io LA

Once again, excuse my ignorance, but if it is a card that I install in the hard drive, what do I plug my various analog cables into for input?

Thank you Walter, that was plain English, I actually understand it!

They’re cards that plug into the PCI slots and they come with connector cables to plug decks, cameras, and monitors into.

Kona cards connect to your various equipment either by a snake of cables that come off the back of the card or via a breakout box. Both are very clearly explained at the AJA website.

One more question, is the aja io la portable enough that I can use it on more than one computer in separate locations? Thanks!
