Aja IO HD Cross convert
Posted by Ruben Rosado on February 10, 2009 at 4:18 pmHello, Can I use the IO HD to cross convert an HD tape 1080i 29.97 to capture on Avid at 1080sf 23.98? It works as stand alone converter from interlaced to interlaced but I cant get it to work from interlaced to psf. Any Ideas.
Thanks!

February 10, 2009 at 7:56 pmThe ioHD is a wonderful tool and it houses a great number of capabilities.
Unfortunately, it does not do that type of conversion, that being frame rate conversion/retime from interlaced 60i to psf 23.98.
Sorry about that.
If you have certain camera/tape formats that contain rp188 info, the IoHD will remove pulldown from various sources (the Panasonic variety of 720p cameras being one of them).
What’s your source material?

February 11, 2009 at 4:50 pmThanks Jeremy! I read about it and found that it doesn’t do it. We will rent a AJA FS1 for the conversions. All the material is HDCAM 1080psf 23.98 and the project was edited on FCP at the same rate using prores hq. The idea was to make a master in HDCAM in 1080i 29.97 to send out to our clients and at the same time use the IOHD to copy the original tapes from one format to the other. Any other suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ah, well the ioHD will add pulldown to 23.98 material to get it up to 29.97.

Why not keep client material @ 23.98?

February 12, 2009 at 4:13 amThe footage will stay in 23.98 to archive. I think the client wants a dub of everything in 29.97 to use in their system and to keep as their master. You know how clients requests are! Thanks for your help!

February 12, 2009 at 4:19 amIt’s not a problem to make 29.997 masters from 23.98 material, but capturing 23.98 from 29.97 material is hard with the ioHD. If your clients are ok with that, then everything is ok!

February 12, 2009 at 4:27 amLet me bother you one more time! If I have a 1080psf 23.98 project on the FCP, how do I set up the IOHD to send 1080 29.97? I cant select it on the menu.

February 12, 2009 at 4:33 amCHnage FCPs video output to 1080i29.97 10bit or choose a 29.97 easy setup.

February 12, 2009 at 4:38 amChange FCPs video output to 1080i29.97 10bit or choose a 29.97 easy setup. if you choose the easy setup route, just know that any subsequent sequence you create will be 29.97.

February 23, 2009 at 10:50 pmHello Jeremy, I have a question about footage conversion. I edited a project in FCP in 1080i 59.94 all the footage is on the same format. How can I print my timeline to tape at 23.98 using a kona 3? Can this be done? I changed the video output to 23.98 and it plays on the FCP but it it doesnt play on the hd monitor. I changed my tri-level reference to 23.98 and didnt work either. Any suggestions? Thanks!
