After Effects for Cartoons Animation ?
Posted by Ola Sanda on December 3, 2014 at 8:06 pmHi.
I wonder what software the professional Cartoon Animators use, for creating 2d Cartoons movies.
If I in the future would want to be able to create professional Cartoons Animation, should I then stick to AE, or should I start learning some other software ?
Any Cartoon Animators in this forum ?

December 3, 2014 at 9:05 pmFor traditional cell-style animation there are lots of dedicated programs that will be more suited than After Effects. But many animators use a combination of programs. They might do their character animation in one, but then composite the characters, backgrounds and effects using After Effects.

December 3, 2014 at 10:01 pmArcher is made using AE (as are some others).
Some shows are made with Flash.
Some use Toon Boom.
Some use C4D (or other 3d apps) and shade it to look 2d.– The Great Szalam

December 4, 2014 at 8:23 amYou can use AE for sure. There are several great tools out there, but the best I found so far is duik tools and it’s free.

For real life physics- Newton, you have to pay a fee but it’s totally worth it.

There are some great uses for the Mettle plugins as well:

What kind of software should I start learning ?
Do You think, that this Cartoon Animation is made in something like Maya or can such animations be made in Cinema 4D ?

Yes.
No matter what software you use though, this tends to be done by a team of people and not just one person.– The Great Szalam

December 5, 2014 at 8:39 amThe example you posted can be done in several 3D packages. C4D can certainly do this.
Like Michael mentioned though, this kind of work is usually done by teams, due to the amount of work involved.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu
