  • A QT movie that automatically pauses at certain points

I know there has to be a way to make a movie like this, and I imagine that there could be a simple, generic, 1-second QT movie that has a sprit track or some other sort of track that pauses the instant it starts to play. Then I would import it as a clip into FCP, and place it in the timeline wherever I want this behavior to happen. I assume that when FCP exports the final movie as QT, it would copy these little tracks into the final movie, and voil

Make a freeze frame or place a slug.

    This is unclear.

    Pauses and THEN what?

    Waits for a “play” command?

Or just freezes for X amount of time and then starts playing again?

Yes, It is called hit the space bar on the keyboard. A client did a great “Key Note” presentation this way for the boss. Hit the space bar the transitions play – new slide, hit the space bar they stop on slide. Save your Keynote as a quicktime movie and it plays on PC. But it is a pain in the neck to edit into the video of the boss yaking for 45 minutes, cause you have to freeze all those slides to get enough time to disolve to the boss. and back.

    I don’t think that’s it.

As I understand the question, the poster wants a QT to “pause” AUTOMATICALLY at a specific point and “wait” for a command to “go”.

Then, pause at a given point again, etc.

That sounds like what you’d have to “PROGRAM”, for instance, a DVD to do with DVD software.

    Exactly.

I’m making a simulation. Each time you step it, I want it to play a 1/2-sec animation, then stop.

You can do this on a DVD with DVD SP.

I need to do it in an ordinary QT movie.

I don’t see how that makes the movie automatically stop playing when it gets to the beginning or end of the slug or freeze frame.

I believe that ordinary QT movie is called Flash 🙂

To my knowledge Flash is the only one that will do what you ask, although I have to admit my knowledge of DVD SP is rather limited.

Flash will do exactly this kind of scripting and when exported as a QT 5 compatible file any QT player will recognize the interactivity in this swf-file!
