Once again screwed by the thoughtless, inconsiderate wankers at Apple.

Why the the download doesn’t work from Software Update is some stupid security bullshit, but why they couldn’t just say the frakin’ download doesn’t work is beyond me.

And when the web download fails, you’re hosed. You can’t get another download. It drops out after a couple of KB. More useless security bullshit.

Making the users jump through hoops is bullshit.

Get a clue. The clue train stops at Apple countless times everyday on these forums, it’s long past due someone at Cupertino took delivery.

    All the best,

Tom, I’m sorry for your troubles. Page 2 of the ‘Late Breaking News’ clearly states:

    Note:
The Download Only option in Software Update is disabled for the Final Cut Pro 5.1.2
    software update package.

The people at Apple are probably wondering who in their right mind doesn’t have their computer hooked up to the internet. It’s a small update ( regarding file size) and a painless install. I understand not everyone hooks their editing machine up to the world wide web, but you might have to bite the bullet this time. You cant blame Apple as I’m sure they’d love to make it easy for you (I should say easier cuz this one hell of a free update and there’s no shipping cost involved), but unfortunately in this day and age, easy for you means more stealing for others. You wouldn’t your hard work stolen, would you? As a matter of fact, it sounds like you probably never had anything stolen. It sucks. Period. If you have had your property ripped off, then sorry for my assumption, but you have to calm down man and see it in a different light.

[John Pale] “Many FXPlug plugins from Motion now appear and work in FCP…note there is a new “Effect Class” heading in the Browser.”

Uhm….where do these appear? I am not seeing these at all.

Yes, I see that now Jeff. problem is it doesn’t appear in the Software Update description where you might actually see it. LBN is accessed, most commonly, from the Help menu of the application, after you’ve installed it. I could have checked the LBN before I tried to install it, but who would have known that the download installer won’t work.

Anyway, I’ll find a way around it, as I’m sure every hacker has done hours ago.

Interesting reading in LBN. A very powerful update, with a lot of new features, which really should have warranted calling it 5.2 as many people predicated it would be.

They should be in the Effects and in the Effects menu according to the LBN. There seem to be heavy restrictions though on graphics card, basically it seems to add Motion plugins. You have to have Motion installed and an AGP or PCI graphics card installed that is Motion capable.

Unless of course you own a G5 Quad without wireless internet installed. In which case you need to take said G5 Quad to an Apple Store to have the wireless installed. For some reason Apple changed the way wireless works in that machine so it needs to be installed by an Apple technician or the warranty is void. So we have a Quad with no internet and I guess I’ll have to wait until that is available to do the download. There’s no hard wired internet in our offices period, it’s all wireless.

    Real time Scopers,

Did you notice that the scopes/waveform is very hard to read when it is parked on a frame. The readout is so faint and dimmed now. The release notes mentions that when it is moving in realtime, it defaults back to the old method of analyzing the footage – which is back to half the pixels on every 16th line. So I’m not sure if the realtime is an improvement in this situation – what do you all think about this? Is it still accurate when it is realtime only on every 16th line?
