    Here are some screen shots

    https://s5.postimg.cc/xbsfy50iv/screenshot2.jpg
    https://s5.postimg.cc/ts6i8bq3b/screenshot3.jpg

The spin transition is listed under “3D Blinds”

As for the stills, if you click on each photo, it will expand.

    https://postimg.cc/gallery/or6j5js4/

Click on it again and it should expand once more for full res, then right click and save.

I just tried the first pic and the details show 5312 x 2988

    Hi Rick,

    I’m still puzzled!

First about the stills. In your original post I followed your direction exactly and never even looked at the top for the option “Download Original Image”. Now that you pointed that out, I have your original hi res photos to include in the test, and as before I have no problems with pixelating, using the exact settings you provided in your Project Settings, and Render Format Custom Settings.

You are using some setting in your Custom Template which are a bit unusual, although do not make a difference. However I would suggest making the following changes:

“allow source to adjust frame rate”, uncheck this.
“Variable bit rate”, if you wan the best I would check “Two-pass”, it takes longer to render because it is making two passes, and considering that Youtube is going to convert your video anyway I have never found this to be a big advantage, but it will not hurt, only take more time. However, you have the “Maximum (bps):” set to “20,000,000” and the ‘Average (bps):” also set to “20,000,000”. If you are going to do this, it would probably be better to select “Constant bit rate (bps):” and set it for “20,000,000”. However I would recommend the Variable set for maximum “28,000,000” and the Average for “14,000,000”. This should provide lots of quality for Youtube and save a bit on the files size and upload times.

Although I now have downloaded your original still, there remains some differences between your system and mine, and anyone of them could be the difference in our results.

    – You are on Win8, I’m on Win7
    – You are using a GTX 670, I’m using a AMD Radeon R9 390
    – You are on VP12 and I have tested using VP13 and VP15
    – I’m holding my tongue to the left while rendering, you are probably holding your to the right!! (just trying to find some humor)

Because you do not get the pixelating when you use a simple fade transition, but do get it when you use the 3D Blinds when doing 4K, yet the 3D Blinds work fine when you to 1080p, it sure points to something in the transition or some to do with your GPU and or GPU driver version that does like the 3D Blinds in 4K.

Have you tried other transitions in 4K to see if they act like the 3D Blinds? Can you change the settings in the 3D Blinds to determine if that will make a difference. Do you by any chance have any NewBlue transitions? They come with some Vegas Pro packages, but not all, I have them but you may not.

Have you ever been successful at 4K using the 3D Blinds transition or is this the first time. Perhaps rolling back the driver version on your GPU would help.

Also, I don’t have a problem downscaling 4K to 1080p, which I always do with any of my Youtube posted videos, or those that I view at home. The fact that you are, may also point to a misbehaving GPU driver, although it could be something in your drone source media.

Can you provide a screen shot of your drone source media specs using Mediainfo in text mode, or at least check to see if it is variable frame rate or constant frame rate, it appears to be constant in the screen shots of your desktop, but just to make sure. I think you are using a DJI and they produce some pretty stunning video.

    I’m still scratching my head!

    Best Regards……George

    Hi Rick,

Could you use Mediainfo to display your drone footage specs, as the media properties from Vegas do not provide the info I was interested in. Mediainfo is free to download and free to use application. It is readily available from multiple source via a web search. One caution, when downloading it will try to get you to also download other stuff, which you can option out from, so you get a clean download only Mediainfo. After loading your drone file, display the information in ‘text’ mode, then make the screen shot or copy and paste the information in COW.

Also, how long in minutes and seconds is the drone source media for this project and what is the file size?

    Thank You…..

    Best Regards……George

I’ll try the MediaInfo stuff when I get back from our BBQ

I did try your settings and this is what I came up with:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu1PqWEcK-E

Didn’t use any photos in this video, just cut a bunch of clips and used different transitions including fade and 3D blinds

The fade isn’t as clean as it should be, but not too bad, however, the 3D blinds show horrible degradation during the transitions

I agree Rick, those transitions, especially the 3D are pretty bad.

I usually use Variable bps to save file size for upload videos (I’m on a monthly allotment of bandwidth), but sometimes I will render out a video that just doesn’t look good or has some bad spots and then will use Constant and crank up the bps. So, I think it would be better to try it both ways to see what you like and regardless of others, go what what you feel works best for you.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Mediainfo on your drone source media when you have the time.

BTW: Just curious, why are you shooting 23.976 fps instead of something like 59.940 in your drone?

Much smoother transitions, but the footage just isn’t as crisp as the 4k

    Hi Rick,

In Mediainfo select ‘View’, then select ‘Text’. It will look like this:

That setting will provide a screen display that looks like this:

Could you do this with your original drone footage file?

With the specs of your drone camera, I understand why you are not shooting 60p in 4K……the highest fps available is 30 fps. However you do have 60p in 1080p. If it were me, that is what I would be shooting for the type of drone footage you are shooting.

The 24p looks smooth for scenes like you have in your original car show example in 4K, as it is a slow camera move scene. However, when you rotate your drone around for a different direction or angle (like you do in your most recent samples), that movement becomes fast panning, and that is not good for 24p, it looks jerky. Fast panning isn’t that great for 60p, but panning will look smoother the faster our fps (more frames for second). Of course this means we need to render at 60 fps. The still images don’t care what the fps is, but your drone footage when making fast movements should look better at 1080-60p, than they will at 4K-24p. If all we were going to do is include very slow pans or camera moves, then the 24p may be acceptable. Just my thoughts.

Sadly, I’m running out of ideas, why I’m getting acceptable results (no pixelating in the stills) in 4K with the spin transition and you are not. Without us being able to figure that out and if you still want to use that transition, maybe shooting at 1080-60p in the drone and rendering in 1080-60p will provide better results.

Also, if I have the option, I always convert my photos to .png format before adding them in Vegas Pro. Vegas likes the .png format more than .jpg, although often there appears to be no great difference. For whatever reason, Vegas seems to do a better job down scaling large resolution photos in the .png format, even though I may shoot the original still photo in my camera as .jpg and then run them through my photo app (either PhotoShop, Affinity, or PaintShopPro) and saving them them to .png. Just my experience.

    Best Regards……George
