Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro 4k Bug?

  • Posted by Jeremy Garchow on October 30, 2013 at 5:45 pm

    I am using a mixture of 4k and 1080 XAVC material in a 1080 timeline (Sony F55).

I am using the canvas of the 4k clips to reposition interviews in a 1080 timeline to cover cuts.

When I add a secondary storyline to a 4k clip, the clips properties change from 4k to 1080, and I lose my reposition capabilities. I then have to match frame back to the original 4k material, replace it in the timeline, and after that the 4k parameters stick. If I undo to before I added the secondary, the clips goes back to 4k. Seems rather buggy.

It’s annoying if I have made adjustments to audio added filters, etc, as I have to remember to copy and paste everything back in to place.

    Is anyone else seeing this?

That is, 4k clips turn to 1080 when adding a connected secondary storyline?

You can check the clip properties in the info window and watch it happen.

    Jeremy,

I constantly see the same behavior of clips (changing its properties) with HD files in SD timeline. Frame size changes to 720*576. I haven’t found any dependancies. My recent timeline has HD clips on Primary, i’m sure they have never been in Secondary. But at some moment they’ve lost properties. May be after consolidating project, or after relinking some files, or somehow noone knows how… That’s really annoying.

    I will file a bug.

By the way, this only happens when putting a clip in a secondary storyline.

If I simply connect a clip, the primary clip remains 4k.

I’m on 10.0.7, if that matters. And i must say, that changed properties affect the image quality. If i drop a “fresh” instance of the same clip on top (or add to audition) i can see the difference between two – “corrupted” clip looks a bit more blurry.

Probably because the spatial conform is now set to something that it shouldn’t be?

Spatial conform remains unchanged – Fit. But you made me wonder, what will happen, if i set it to none? Will the clip scale up to 1920*1080 or it will sort of obey it’s new properties? I will check that tomorrow, when i get to that project.

I also see the same behavior. With a 4K clip in the primary of an HD timeline, and an HD clip connected to it. Making the connected clip into a secondary storyline will cause the 4K clips frame size to change to 1920 x 1080.

Workaround- connect the connected clip to a different clip (preferably a clip with the same frame size as your project), make the connected clip into a secondary storylines, then Drag it back into position over the 4K clip. Frame size remains intact

    Thanks, David.

[David Eaks] “Frame size remains intact”

Now try adding another clip to the secondary after you “reconnect” it to the orig 4k clip. Does it switch? Mine does.

Hmm, I’m not sure. I’m on the road, will check that in about 45min
