16 mm audio
I’ve got all this 16mm audio. It’s like 16mm film but it’s audio tape with sprocket holes along one side. It’s audio that was originally transferred from Nagra in the olden days. Is there any way at all to just HEAR it? Transfer it? Anybody????????

Depending on where you are located this should be a breeze. All you need to find is a transfer facility with a common or garden 16mm mag film replay machine. In the UK most facilities still have one for just this reason.

Thanks. I now have a new and different problem. I’ve located and obtained the original Nagra tapes. How do you playback/transfer them?

You need a 1/4 inch reel to reel machine.
However if you need to sync these up to the original film footage, if it has been transferred to video, you will need a machine that is capable of doing a 0.1% pulldown so the audio will match the video. -
Frank — I’ve been told that there’s some kind of noise on Nagra footage, regular beeps or something and therefore it can only be played on some special machine. Not true? Sync is not an issue. These were voiceovers.

If you are not concerned with timecode or sync, you should be fine. Just load the reels up on a 1/4 inch reel to reel machine.

thanks, Frank! I’ve found a place to rent a reel to reel that plays at 3 3/4 (or is that 3 1/4)? anyway, it’s the right ips for the tape. It has an rca out. There’s an M-audio box that has a usb out. There’s also my i-mic. He played it using Sonic Foundry and a pc, and it came out with two very different tracks in stereo. Which is good. Which is what I want.
MY QUESTION: If I import with i-mic will I get the two distinctive tracks? THANKS. -
I believe the i-mic is capable of stereo.

I am writing to you as a huge fan of Art Pepper, his music has been an unbelievable inspiration to me since I was a child and continues to move me to the core on a regular basis. Two albums have especially moved me and I believe they contain the greatest music ever committed to tape, these are Blues For The Fisherman and True Blues. I first got Blues For The Fisherman when I was ten and I listened to it everyday for a year, I am musician myself and when ever I feel fed up to the point of wanting to give up playing I listen to Art and feel that inspiration again.
