New to HD in FCP
I am editing with FCP version 6.0.6. We recently switched our cameras to Panasonic AG-HMC40 AVCCAM HD Camcorder. I am importing the footage into FCP. FCP is dragging and very slow. I need guidance on what I need to change all of my FCP setting to. I am new to the HD world. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hi Angela,
HD requires more processing power than SD.
Are you using L&T?

Once your stuff is Prores, you edit as usual.

HI thank you for your help. Actually, the footage has already been transfered from the camera’s card onto an external hardrive. The cameras are being used, so the people that I work with never actually give me the card.
I copied the footage from the hard drive to my computer and brought it into FCP that way. All of the clips are .mov files. Is this really bad? The footage looks great, but is very slow. There is no way I can edit this way. Should I change the sequence settings and FCP preferences?

Your media must be now Prores.
I don’t know about your system and what are you trying to do, so I can’t know if your slow performance is normal or not.
Try to easy he RT setting (Unlimited RT).

Changed to Unlimited RT and is still dragging. I am using
Mac OSX 10.5.8

I watched the tutorial that you recommended, and tried to log the footage. However, FCP will not open these clips, saying that file format is not supported. How would I change these .mov clips to prores?

Did you try Importing the files? Not L&T?
If FCP won’t open the files then you need new files.Chris Tompkins

Where are you storing the media?

Here is my path thus far:
Dragged the files from external drive to my internal hard drive.
Next, “Imported” the files into FCP.
I can open the files after import….but when I try to view them..they drag and FCP almost shuts down.
When I tried to L&T it would not allow me to. So importing was my only option.
